As you may have noticed, I haven’t updated Oxford Clay in a couple of months. I could try and blame this on a hectic work schedule, a house-move or any number of other things, but that wouldn’t exactly be true. Although those things have had an impact, the truth is that I wasn’t enjoying drawing these dino-chaps. It may sound like a small thing, but regularly sitting down to slog away at something you have trouble finding fun in is difficult. Not relying on the strip for an income has meant that I can take extended breaks without any financial woes.
So, I’ve had a break. I should have told you, but I didn’t, for which I offer my humblest apologies. In the absence of drawing dinosaur comics, I have drawn three mini-comics, The Adventures of Silky Wilson, Onion Soup and Shoulder to Shoulder with Pavlov. Each of these comics were created very rapidly, without a whole lot of over-thinking going into them, and were LOADS of fun to do. I’ve also been updating my other website, thingsbydan.co.uk regularly with all manner of doodles, experiments, jobs and whatnot, each of which I also really enjoyed.
What I’m trying to say in a roundabout way is that I’m back! Expect new pages soon!
I’ve written about my production process over on my other website, explaining all sorts of pen geekery and ink-lust. Needless to say, it promises to be a compelling glimpse behind the magician’s cloth!
